When I was asked to do a Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay Nintendo Switch review, I knew she would be on board to help. So read on to find out how we got on with both the game, and our Paw Patrol party to celebrate the game’s release.

When I agreed to do this review, I assumed Syd would be visiting me lots over half term. So you can imagine how gutted I was when Sam and I had to self – isolate. This meant our party for 3 became a party for 2. Not to worry though – Sam and I still had fun. He’s just not a fan of being in front of the camera.

I received an advanced copy of the Nintendo Switch game for the purpose of this review, along with some fun party activities. The game has an RRP of £29.99 and is available from 6th November 2020. The first thing Sam and I did was get stuck into the game, on the Nintendo Switch. It’s aimed at children aged 3+ so is a great “first game” for younger kids.

Educational Value

I’ve written a lot about the educational value of Nintendo Switch games before, so want to dig into this first. Within 30 seconds of this game starting, players are already learning the importance of recycling and team work.

While this game isn’t going to teach your child their 8 times table, it will help them develop lots of skills. Firstly, there’s plenty of problem solving to be done, as well as logic and hand – eye co-ordination. Personally, this isn’t a game I’d feel guilty about letting a younger child play for half an hour or so.

Gameplay

The Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay has a good mix of graphics and gameplay. It’s designed to allow the player to feel a part of an actual episode of the cartoon. Each mission begins with Ryder explaining the task to the pups. You are then lead through the mission.

As you navigate the game, you’re taught how to use the controls, and how to interact with objects. The controller is really responsive, and I love the way you learn as you go along, so no overwhelming tutorial before you get to play – hooray! Personally, I love that you can play the game in 2 player mode, so us geeky parents can play alongside out little ones. What’s not to love?

You start the game with Rubble and Rocky, and unlock the additional pups as you play the 7 missions and 7 mini games. You can go back and redo the levels you’ve completed too, so you can increase your score.

Stumbling Blocks

Honestly, I have played the first 4 missions now, and the only thing which was a little frustrating was the load time. It does take around 20 seconds to open up each mission. The game plays smoothly and without glitching once it’s loaded though, so maybe that was an intention thing, to improve kids’ patience.

If your child does get stuck, it’s wise to suggest some time away from technology. Sam and I had a game of Paw Patrol Ludo while we took a break from the game during our party. (He won)!

My Thoughts On Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay

Any Paw Patrol is going to love this game. Younger kids will probably need plenty of help from a grown up. However, I’m confident most 6/7 year olds could navigate the game without much support. I think that the £29.99 price tag is good value, and I love that the game offers educational value as well as good, old fashioned fun.

All told, I’d definitely recommend it.
